India, a country of more than twenty states (29 states and 7 union territories to be exact), has near its heart, a tiny city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Allahabad.

A question needs to be asked about it. What makes Allahabad?

What makes it special?

Someone once said to me, “Why are you still stuck at Allahabad? I can’t live here; I am getting out of here ASAP!” Surely many do, surely many leave, and a lot of those who do live here, still miss a lot that there is to be grasped. Underrating and underestimating a cauldron full of stories, potential, and lives that matter.

This city has so much more than meets the ordinary-busy-with-their-lives-and-exhausted, eye. It has something that people who have lived here and lived in a different city as well, know about and value. They say, “There is no place like Allahabad”. After years now, I agree.

There is also a lot that people still don’t know about Allahabad. The art, the literature, the history this city has to offer to the world is what we celebrate. The people that Allahabad has given to us like the man of the millennium Shree Amitabh Bachchan, like Indira Gandhi, Firaq Sahab who was a Lecturer at the University of Allahabad in English yet a legendary poet of Urdu, like the epic work of Madhushala by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, like the poet, writer and artist as well, Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala’, and many many more.  We celebrate the people of this city, the people that make this city, that go out into the world and colour it with their magic.
